Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is an MCP server?
An MCP server exposes tools, resources, and prompts over the Model Context Protocol so an AI assistant such as Claude, Cursor, or a custom agent can use them. Servers run locally (via npm, PyPI, Docker, or an MCPB bundle) or as hosted remotes over HTTP.
Where does this data come from?
Every listing is pulled from the official MCP Registry at registry.modelcontextprotocol.io, which publishers submit to directly. We refresh the dataset regularly and link to the registry record for each server.
How do I install a server?
Open the server page. It shows the package identifier (for example an npm or PyPI name), the transport type, and any hosted remote URL. Add that to your MCP client configuration. Most clients accept a command plus arguments for local servers, or a URL for remote servers.
Why is a server missing?
We list servers that have a description and at least one install path (package, repository, or remote). Test and demo entries are filtered out. If your server is missing, publish it to the official registry or use the Add a listing form.
Is a listing here an endorsement?
No. Listings are automatically compiled from public registry data. Review the source code and permissions before you connect any server to an assistant that can access your files or accounts.
